How do you combine elements of traditional styling with current farmhouse trends to suit the eclectic tastes of first time home builders, Chuck and Louann? This White Cottage Farmhouse, at just over 1900 sqft, perfectly delivers. This custom plan offers a relatively small footprint, but big impressions with soaring vaults and open spaces throughout.

With a penchant for entertaining, these empty nesters desired an open feel, but with defined formal spaces- accomplished here by graceful arches, glass French doors, and plenty of natural light illuminating the heart of the home: a generous living area and kitchen featuring a combination of knotty alder shaker cabinetry, and a contrasting white island complete with custom corbels and a farmhouse sink. A generous walk-in pantry was at the top of Louann’s “must have” list. Black doors, including a barn door tucking away the laundry room, contrast seamlessly with the home’s otherwise neutral palette.

Relocating to Glen Rose as the Director of The Promise, Chuck desired a “sacred space” for personal retreat and creativity. An added bay window extending the 4th bedroom/study allowed enough floor space for housing his grand piano, with a bonus view of the Texas sunset to boot.

Unique touches though out remind this well traveled couple of close ties near and far- The fireplace mantel as well as the cedar beams and trusses were cut from a private farm and gifted to them from friends in Arkansas. The antique Spanish mirror in the guest bath is a housewarming gift from new friends in Glen Rose, and the Moroccan vintage tile patterns speak to them of the years they spent as residents of Jerusalem, Israel.

“To be honest, we didn’t spend a lot of time searching for a builder,” Chuck says. “We heard about BJ through word of mouth, and after
a couple of brief meetings, we thought- ‘why look further’? We wanted to work with someone who shared our values, and as 1st time builders, we needed someone that understood our budgetary framework and would guide us with honesty, wisdom, integrity, and trust. We sensed that BJ exuded those qualities. We have not been disappointed. AOS delivered to us a beautiful, efficient home that has exceeded our expectations-at exactly the right price point. Come on over-we would love to share it with you!”
